A Christmas Novella

new hb cover.png

He had everything… except the ability to enjoy any of it.

Charlie has the life most people would call perfect—loving wife, two kids, a steady career, and a warm home.

But Christmas? He can’t stand it.

Too much noise, too much religion, too much forced joy. Every year feels like an obligation he can’t escape.

Then a winter storm changes everything.

When a homeless woman saves his son’s life in the freezing cold, Charlie insists she stay with them until the storm passes. But what begins as simple gratitude turns into something deeper. Her quiet wisdom, unexpected kindness, and unsettling sense of peace begin to reshape the home—and the man inside it.

And Charlie can’t shake one question:

Was she just a stranger… or something far more?

Snow in the city

Charlie has the life many people dream of. A loving wife, two wonderful children, a successful career, and a comfortable home. Yet despite all he has, Charlie can't stand Christmas. He sees little value in religion, has no patience for commercialism, and views the holiday season as little more than an annual annoyance.

Everything changes when a homeless woman saves his son's life during a brutal winter storm.

Wanting to repay her kindness, Charlie and his family invite her into their home. As the storm rages outside, Noel's presence begins to change the household in unexpected ways. Her wisdom, compassion, and mysterious past force Charlie to confront what he has spent years taking for granted.

Is Noel an angel? A miracle? Or simply the person Charlie needed most?

Noel Not an Angel is a heartwarming Christmas tale about gratitude, family, and learning to cherish life's most important moments.

A Quick Excerpt

The young lady who was helping him gave him the strangest smile, “Of course.  Come with me to the meeting room so we can find your new best friend.”

The woman started walking with Ernie trailing behind trying to explain he did not need a production.  The woman seemed to have no interest in his complaints.  They entered the display room where a half dozen children were wandering around talking to the dolls that stood on four different levels that surrounded them, all looking down like frozen children.

“Please walk around and talk to them.  Find your friend, the one that you like the most.”  The woman said again in a voice that made Ernie feel like he was joining a cult.

“I just need a doll.  Any doll will do.”  He wanted out of the room.

“I can’t pick your friend.”

“It isn’t for me.  It’s for my daughter.”  He was getting annoyed at the assumption that he was finding a ‘friend’ for himself.  “I don’t know what kind creepy men you get in this store if this is how they like to be treated.”

“Sir, we don’t judge.  Everyone needs a friend now and then.  I understand this is for your daughter but, you are here.  And you must pick out the perfect friend.”

He rolled his eyes and headed for the nearest doll, but as his hand reached for it a little girl next to him started to cry.  “I was talking to JoBelle!”  She screamed, the sounds pushing Ernie back away from the doll.
